Tonkatsu at Tonkichi

Sorry I've been MIA-ing for a while... (not like anyone noticed anyway..) Work's been brutal, not only do I have to fly back and forth on biz trips and work over weekends for seminars, my company decided to block all USB access to their computers so they are making it twice as hard for me to blog / upload photos as I am too tired afterwork to turn on my computer and blog... (I should be thankful blogspot's not blocked yet... *fingers crossed they won't find this little blog of mine*)

Well, enough about the depressing rant about work. It is time I should write about some sinful foods!

So a long long time ago (before work ate me up alive), I had lunch with a good friend in a place called Tonkichi. I have no idea what Tonkichi means, but I do know they have been a specialist in creating the most scrumptious Tonkatsu (Fried pork chop cutlets) and tempura dishes (like tempura oysters and shrimps!!).

Prices are fair, ranging from around HKD $200 - 300 for a-la-carte or some special tonkatsu sets. What's more is that you get to have a lot of fun grilling and grinding on those sesame seeds provided on a special bowl (and tonkichi sauce) while waiting for those yummy pork cutlets.
What I like about the Tonkichi's tonkatsu is that they are so perfectly fried you can't feel the grease at all when you bite into them. There is no guilt for eating fried pork cutlets!! (Its a miracle. lol) And to make you feel better, each dish also comes along with an unlimited refill of shredded cabbage leaves, along with a seaweed sauce and a grapefruit sauce to top the salad. You'll have the fun mixing and matching these two flavors, some people also add the tonkichi sauce for the tempura / tonkatsu but I personally prefer the seaweed sauce.

The only downside of this place is if you want to try this place out you either have to go there early before lunch time, or just make reservations way ahead for dinner as this place is always booked. Despite the waiting and craving, I would say this place is definitely worth a try if you are a big fan of fried foods or tonkatsu.

Happy Eating! :)
